Okay…

in Diets, Updates

I am going to be honest here and admit that I am currently sticking to a very strict 1000-cal per day diet as of yesterday. Normally I don’t go this low in calories, but I desperately want to jump-start my next bout of weight loss. I have been working out every day for the past 3 days at the highest setting on my elliptical and doing weights, which is probably responsible for my weight staying the same despite dieting.

So for the next 6 days, I am sticking to a very strict 1000 calorie diet and exercising every single day between 20-45 minutes. I know some people will tell me “OMG you are going to become anorexic” and “omg that is so unhealthy” and “omg you are staving yourself”. Well let me assure you all up front that: 1, I am 31 years old and not in any danger of becoming anorexic! 2, It’s more unhealthy to remain at this weight, as far as I’m concerned. My blood pressure is just too high and the only way to lower it without meds is to lose the extra weight. Period. Plus I am taking vitamins every single day now, and 3, 1000 calories is not starvation by any means, especially when done with vitamin therapy, plenty of rest and light exercise and ONLY for 7 days.

I will not be getting on the scale until Sunday morning to see what I have lost.

Basically I am still sticking to mini-meals – five tiny meals. One reason for this is to keep my blood sugar stable and to shrink my stomach a bit. Next week I will move into a semi low-carb mini-meal plan.

My blood pressure is just too high right now… and it’s time I took matters into my own hands and make a SERIOUS effort to lower it before I am forced to go on meds.

So, day 2… I’m supposed to go out to eat tonight with this new guy I’m dating, but I will be sticking to salad and lean protein!

Thursday Update

in Updates

I did my usual hour-long power walk today… it was a very brisk 49 degrees out and sunny. I love exercising in cooler temperatures because the cold makes me want to move faster.

On Monday – when it was really overcast – I took some photos of my walk. To summarize, I start on the East side of the river, cross the river, walk 1 mile on the West side of the river, cross back over, then walk the mile back home. Here is a picture of part of the first bridge I walk across, about .75 miles across:

Here is the other bridge going back to the East side:

After crossing this bridge, here is a picture of the last mile I need to walk to get home:

(I live in that circular building).

Altogether my regular walk is about 3.5 miles, give or take. (I’m thinking closer to 4 miles if anything).

Not bad!

Here’s a picture of the woodsy path I found last weekend:

So onto my new plan….. it’s nothing too new, but involves a LOT of exercise. I now exercise 60-90 minutes about 5 days a week. Right now it’s power-walking and elliptical, but I plan to add bike-riding into the mix as soon. Once I get used to my power-walk and it starts getting too easy, I’ll add 1.5 pound ankle or wrist weights for an additional muscle boost. In the past when I’ve done this, I see new results literally within a week – it’s very effective, although some say it’s bad on the back.

All of the additional exercise DOES make me hungrier, and it usually kicks in the day after.

MiniGoal: 7 Pounds By September 1st

in Meals, Updates

I have decided that I’ll be heading back to New Hampshire August 29th or 30th of this month. But it will only be for a week or two, in which time I’ll be cleaning out my Nashua apartment, packing the thousands of books I own and shipping them out here somehow. Before leaving I am going to have to order several bookcases and have them delivered here. Thankfully I do have the room for them here in this apartment. I’ve also decided to renew my lease for this apartment for another 6 months. Management of my building said I can move up to a higher floor anytime during my lease, so maybe I’ll wait until the end of the year and then try and get a 2-bedroom on a higher floor.

These are things I’ve been stressing out about for a while now and couldn’t make a decision about to save my life… but this morning I got up and had all the answers, for some reason!

So anyway, I’ve also decided to try and lose 7 pounds by the end of the month. Perhaps that is too much to lose in a short period, but I’m going to give it my all.

My days’ meals look something like this: organic brown rice and 4 ounces of fruit for breakfast, dried apples (or another piece of fruit) and a tiny serving of raw sunflower seeds for a snack, organic soup of some type for lunch, and chicken with grilled veggies for dinner. Additional snacks include a baby bel Laughing cow cheese and raw pumpkin seeds.

Sounds healthy enough to me… raw seeds and nuts are supposed to be very good for you if eaten in moderation (because of high calories). Also, the rice keeps my blood sugar nice and steady during my workout.

So… 7 pounds in 17 days… is it doable?

Health Kick

in Miscellaneous

Man have I ever been on a health kick lately… I am determined to get my body back into the amazing shape it was once in. Not only am I exercising every single day, but I’m eating lots and lots of fresh fruit, veggies, taking vitamins and drinking lots of distilled water. I finally figured out where all the good fruit is here in Tulsa – at Whole Foods, and nowhere else. (It only took about 4 months to discover this). They sell tons of organic fruits, plus unusual stuff like golden raspberries and white nectarines and peaches. My favorite thing is the fresh fruit cups they sell, which has high quality cut up fruit. Mmmmmmmmm.

I am eating three 300-450 calorie meals and two 150-250 calorie snacks at regular intervals throughout the day, which comes out to around 1500 to 1600 calories per day. I’ve decided to stay around this number because my body is still healing itself from 2 1/2 years of alcohol damage, plus I’m exercising vigorously, so I want to keep my metabolism fired up. I don’t mind the fact that I will probably lose weight slowly. My main concern right now is to feel better and be HEALTHY. I still do mostly fruit in the morning (although I’ve added in a protein source) and still stick to mainly lean protein and veggies for dinner.

I now begin my daily workouts with yoga stretches which I can feel all over my body. Then I do the elliptical and weights. I still haven’t gotten into walking along the river as planned simply because it’s been so damn hot and humid around here lately.

Last but not least, I’m going to bed at night now and getting up in the morning like normal people…
