in Updates
Remember that awful pain in the back of my legs I mentioned in my last post? Well, it was still bothering me through the day and evening yesterday. Last night I decided to take a bath using Himalayan pink salt mixed with dead sea salt and lavender. (It’s a mixture you can buy at Whole Foods).
And guess what? The pain was GONE by the time I got out of the tub! And it hasn’t come back! Dead sea salt baths really work to get rid of muscle pain. It felt absolutely amazing soaking in it, too. My entire body felt so relaxed and alive at the same time. I did the whirlpool jets for about 5 minutes but mostly just relaxed in there without them.
I will never doubt the healing powers of dead sea salts again!
And I finally slept really well last night. As a matter of fact, I slept 10 hours and didn’t want to get up even when I did.
Anyway, I can’t update much right now because I have to go back to my old apartment again today and turn in the keys, plus do a little more cleaning, and grab the last of my stuff that’s there. At this point I only have a (really nice) blanket, plus some stuff in the freezer, plus some candles in the bathroom and a shoulder bag filled with odds and ends left over there. Oh, and some clothes that somehow got left behind. It was weird going back there yesterday. Not that it’s a bad building or anything, but I was SO glad I didn’t live there anymore.
I finally finished unpacking my bedroom and setting up my master closet. I still need to arrange some stuff in my bedroom though. There is some mismatched furniture in there now, but I don’t mind. (Pictures coming tonight!) I just have a few more kitchen boxes to unpack, plus start on my computer room, which is still stacked with boxes of books. The movers didn’t set up the bookshelves correctly and some of the shelves came crashing down when I tried putting books on them. I will never use that moving company again (All My Sons in Tulsa, OK). The guy never called me back and clearly they were just happy to get my money and don’t care if I’m happy or not.
I think I’m about to start my TOM because last night I was SO hungry and really overate. But it’s OK.
You guys were right – I was too obsessive in the past. Of course, I would have denied it until Kingdom Come. Haha. But I’m not denying it anymore.
I really need to weigh myself though…
Here’s my cramped unpacked computer room right now:

Yikes, huh?!
Where you see that chair in the second photo is where I’m sitting right now, typing this!
What a beautiful day! I love that I get direct sunlight on my balcony and in my windows for several hours each morning/day now. I woke up at 8am this morning and managed to hobble out of bed in time for both the cable man (who had to come fix the cable connection) and the furniture guys (who were picking up my love seat, which unfortunately just didn’t fit in my living room, so I returned it). And when I say “hobble” I am not exaggerating. It seems I did something bad to the back of my calves, they have been hurting something AWFUL!! I have been on my feet pretty much all day long for the past 3 days, plus bending, squatting, lifting, reaching, etc. I guess I wasn’t in as good of shape as I thought. Although the rest of my body has been feeling good.
I have been taking a break from thinking about dieting, raw foodism, fruitarianism, etc for the past several days and let me tell you, it’s been wonderful! I’ve been eating when I have time and not worrying about calories or nutrition. It’s really freeing. As a result, I have actually lost weight. (Haven’t weighed myself yet but I can tell the way stuff is fitting ). I know now that I was definitely worrying about it all WAY too much. I’m going to keep myself in this easy-going diet frame of mind for as long as I can. I’m not over-eating greasy crap food anymore or battling cravings. Instead, I just eat what I want within reason when I’m hungry and have time. This morning I had a hearty breakfast, knowing that it’s going to be another super-busy day and I probably won’t eat again until dinner. I had a banana, some organic honey-flavored cereal, and a coffee-flavored all-natural yogurt.
I didn’t do anything exciting for my birthday yesterday, but my sister and niece came over and brought me a card and hung out. We are all (me, sister, niece and Aunt) going to celebrate my birthday this Thursday evening by going out to dinner and maybe a movie or something. I spent yesterday afternoon/evening unpacking the many many boxes in my dining and living room area. Still have my bedroom to fix up and my computer room, which is stuffed with book boxes to the point I can’t really walk around it.
Moving day was… interesting. Here are some of the highlights: the movers were 2 1/2 hours late; nobody was answering the phone at the office, so I was panicking; they finally arrived at 11:30. They had estimated it would take around 4 hours to move me altogether. Well, that didn’t happen, it took 7.45 hours; I spent double what I had planned; the elevator that my old building had set up for the movers to use kept breaking down; it was 93 degrees and extremely humid out that day, so it was miserable; my sister had her dog over and she kept peeing all over the place (mostly on the balcony but once in my apartment as well); my old building has three elevators. One is broke down for the next couple of months; one was being used by the movers exclusively; so a building with 32 floors of tenants had to use the 1 remaining elevator during the time the movers were there; My sister and I had to use the tenant elevator to take stuff down to my car (because I park on the 3rd floor, since the moving elevator was programmed to only go from the 9th floor to the lower level). Each time the elevator arrived, it was packed with people. Thankfully people in that building are nice and were in a good mood that day!
The cable company was supposed to come out originally on Monday, but someone had messed up the schedule. So around 11am on Sunday (before the movers had arrived), I got a call from a cable guy who said he was on his way to my new place to hook up service. After a couple of panicked phone calls to Cox and back to the tech, we decided that 4:30 would be a good time for him to go back to my new place. (The movers had finally arrived and I figured it couldn’t take more than 3 hours to pack up my apartment). Well, of course it took a lot longer than that. We finally left my old building at 4pm. My sister and I drove our cars over and arrived here around 4:25. One of the movers hurt his knee and had to be dropped off en route to my new place, which made them arrive here at 4:50. The cable guy got here at the same time. So the movers had to dig around in the truck to find my computer and TV, which took longer than it should have. Unfortunately the cable didn’t get hooked up properly the first time, so they had to come back this morning.
So it took until 7:15pm for the movers to finish! There were a few other difficulties I won’t get into. Suffice it is to say that I am a little disappointed. So one of the managers there is going to call me back today and possibly give me some sort of refund or discount.
The highlight of the day was when my sister’s puppy peed on my brand new carpet here in my new apartment.
Whew! Anyway, I was so tired on Sunday night that I couldn’t fall asleep despite soaking in my new whirlpool tub (I was over-wired). I finally drifted off around 3am and slept fitfully through the night. Then woke up to a loud pounding on my front door around 10am. The furniture delivery guys had arrived with my new TV and couches, etc, and there were boxes in the way in my living room! Very heavy boxes, plus an extra bookcase. I had to move it all into my dining room while still half asleep and in my pajamas.
Anyway, things have calmed down now, everything is working fine and I absolutely LOVE this place already for many reasons: it’s a safe, gated community; I have a huge bathroom, a large kitchen space and dining area; very quiet; I have my own garage to park in; my own private laundry room in my apartment; very nice and friendly office staff; direct sunlight; 24 hour gym in main building; and I love this area too – there is a large shopping district less than 2 miles from here. I’m now nearly 10 miles from the river and away from the nasty methane smells, too! Cleaner air here.
I have to head over to my old place a bit later today to finish cleaning up, plus get the rest of the stuff out of my fridge and a few other items left behind.
I will be taking some pictures of my new place as I get more unpacked!
I only have time for a super-quick update…… yesterday was SO stressful, so many things went wrong during the move! Almost everything that could have went wrong did at one time or another.
Oddly enough I didn’t get overly upset or burst out crying, despite the fact that I’m probably in PMS mode right now.
I was running on like 2 hours of sleep yesterday. This morning I got roused out of a deep sleep by the furniture delivery guys, who were pounding on my front door like the world was ending.
I’ll do a proper update later tonight or tomorrow. I think I lost a couple of pounds over the weekend (or maybe inches) because I’ve barely had time to eat and I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m also in quite a bit of pain!
After several weeks of blurry vision and burning eyes, I am super-excited to announce that I now finally have clear vision again – even with my glasses. A few hours after taking my first dose of antibiotics, I noticed my vision get a little clearer. Then after my 2nd dose (about 2 hours ago) my vision became sharp. I am so excited to be able to see again!
Does this mean I also had an eye infection, I wonder?
Anyway, I am nearly done packing. I have 43 boxes (yep you read that right) of stuff! I will be getting up around 6am tomorrow to finish the odds and ends that are left, plus do some cleaning and take out several bags of garbage. My younger sister, her daughter and their puppy are coming over to help out and keep me company while the movers load the truck.
I will probably update tomorrow night from my mini laptop internet connection, since I won’t have my cable and high-speed internet hooked up until Monday evening.
Here’s a photo I took today of my new whirlpool tub, which is located in the master bathroom:

I can’t wait to soak away all of my moving aches and pains!
Earlier today at my appointment, my blood pressure was through the roof and they were concerned. So I really need to concentrate on relaxing as soon as possible. And no more salty take-out. I was good today and only had fruit and yogurt.
Anyway, I doubt I’m making much sense at this point. The Vicodin is kicking in and it’s time for bed!
Moving is stressful enough, but add in a tooth infection and antibiotics (and painkillers) and you have yourself a rollicking, rip-roaring good time.
I decided to put my moving checklist into a separate post. I will be keeping track of the tasks that need accomplishing on here and will cross things off as I finish them!

May as well keep track of what I’m eating today, too!

- 1 apple, 1 pear, pineapple chunks
- Take out (veggie burger, mashed potatoes)
Food So Far Today (Saturday):
This will probably be the last post I do until the actual day of the move (Sunday). But feel free to check back often, I’ll be keeping this post updated regularly!
I think I have either a sinus, ear or tooth infection! Noooooooo!
Ugh, I’m soooooooooo tired of packing already! I’m currently working on kitchen stuff. Almost done with it (for now) but damn am I tired of boxes and packing tape and newspaper already. My body is tired and aching today from constant lifting, stretching, bending down, getting on my knees, etc. (A good ache though).
I’m in a quest to try and finish as much stuff in my fridge as possible before the move, so I’m going to be eating a lot of fruit today. I’ve already had a green smoothie for breakfast, made with mixed baby greens, pineapple, frozen bananas and cantaloupe.
I got on the scale this morning and wasn’t too happy with what I saw. It seems I gained a couple of pounds back. Probably because I’ve been stress and convenience-eating the past couple of days. I may also be PMS’ing, though truth be told I never really know when I am anymore. I’m not one of those girls who pay attention to the dates.
Wow… I can’t believe I’m moving in 2 days! I can’t wait to get into the new place!

Sheesh, I have way too much to do still!

Well, moving stress and exhaustion has hit… D-day is arriving soon and I’ve been so busy packing. It turns out I own way too much crap.
The good news is that I’m progressing quite nicely, but I still have too much to do. My apartment is lined and stacked with boxes in every free space. It’s almost gotten to the point where I’ve given up careful packing and have instead begun throwing stuff in boxes randomly. Thankfully I don’t need to deal with the heavy stuff or electronics. The moving guys themselves are going to carefully pack my computers up for me (I have 5 of them plus 2 laptops, I know, crazy huh?!) I’ll probably also have them pack my juicer and blender.
It doesn’t help matters that I’ve been feeling a bit yucky the past couple of days. Probably from stress.
As for diet stuff, I am too busy to worry about it now although I made an important revelation the other night. You guys left me some very helpful and amazing comments on my second-to-last post, for which I’m very grateful! My revelation was this, in a nutshell: I am addicted to fattening, greasy/cheesy food. I’m not craving it because I need a nutrient in it. I take in plenty of calcium and fat and protein. Why would I needed anything that’s in that sort of awful food?
So, it’s an addiction and needs to be dealt with. I have a plan but it’s going to have to wait. I’m too busy with other stuff to worry about it now.
Perhaps I traded my alcohol high (when I used to drink a lot) for the greasy cheesy food high? It’s certainly possible.
My hair seems to have improved since eating eggs again. But I won’t know for sure until a few weeks from now.
I’ve started taking Vitamin D3 supplements because the sun is never out long enough to go out and catch rays around here.
I’ve also been getting lots of physical exercise (exertion) in. Packing up a large 1 1/2 bedroom apartment by yourself is actually quite a bit of work!
I’ll update more later.
Today was an unusual day. First off, I began feeling exhausted and achy around early afternoon (1pm), so I went back to bed. I slept fitfully and had some very strange dreams and finally got back up at 8pm! Which means that I’ll now be up all night.
I am also in a strange frame of mind. I’m excited that Fall is here – it’s finally cool outside! I can literally feel Fall now, if that makes sense. Fall has been one of my favorite seasons since living in New England seven years ago. Right now I am longing to be in New Hampshire, when the air gets cold (not bitter cold), the sky turns this incredible beautiful blue color in the evenings, and the leaves start changing.
Anyway, since I now have many many hours stretching out before me, I can get some stuff done. Here’s what is on my agenda for tonight:
- Pack up my magazines. I have hundreds of magazines stacked in various places in my computer room and living room. Some of them I’ll be taking with me in the move (the really good fashion magazines); the rest (tabloids and diet/fitness mags) I’ll be throwing away. I’m halfway done with this project already.
- Drink wheat grass juice.
- Start packing up my computer room and living room.
- Watch last night’s Gossip Girl (which I DVR’d), plus tonight’s Melrose Place and 90210 (also DVR’d, I rarely watch the shows live anymore because of commercials!)
- Make some green juice or a green smoothie. I need to start doing this daily again.
- If there is time, start organizing my entry-hall table, which is currently stacked to overflowing with magazines and mail. A true mess if there ever was one.
- Do some internet work on various sites.
I just realized that Desperate Housewives 6th season starts this Sunday night, which is the one night I won’t have any access to TV or streaming internet. Damn!
I had my salad and yogurt tonight when I got up and for some reason I don’t feel all that well physically. Perhaps I’m fighting something off? That’s why I’m going to drink the wheat grass juice.
Anyway, back to work…
As I type this, I’m sitting here eating the rest of the mango I cut up the other day. Mmm. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: mango truly is the food of the gods! How can any one good be so delicious (and nutritious)?!
Anyway, last night I ate (organic cage-free) eggs for the first time in several months. I didn’t gag or anything either, which is good. If you are confused as to why I am eating eggs again (and who wouldn’t be, with all the back-and-forth dietary changes I make?), read on.
Warning: rants ahead.
I am absolutely fed up with a few things – firstly my dull, dry hair. As a person who has had beautiful hair all her life, it’s beyond ridiculous. It’s one of my few good physical attributes, dammit! So that is one reason I’ve gone back to eating eggs. Secondly, I am completely tired of the ridiculous greasy cheesy cravings I get every single solitary night – especially the days I do 811rv. You know, I’ve never had to actively deny such strong food cravings in my life as I have since becoming a vegetarian! And the vegan days are even worse! And I just can’t handle it anymore. We are talking serious cravings. And I’ve just about had it. I am fed up and it needs to change. Clearly my body isn’t getting something it needs.
So, I ate the eggs last night and it was OK. We’ll see how it goes for the rest of this week. I’m not planning to eat them every day (no way) but at least 3 nights per week. The nights that I don’t eat them, I’m going to have Greek yogurt. (I had stopped eating it a couple weeks ago out of boredom).
I have really conflicting feelings over dairy… you all know how I used to rant about how bad it is for the body. But why do I crave cheese so strongly when I don’t eat meat? Does my body really need the extra protein? I know I’m getting plenty of calcium, so that’s not it. What does my body need that I’m not getting?! Why do I crave greasy cheese enchiladas, macaroni and cheese and other greasy cheese-laden foods nearly every single day, starting around 4pm?
I just don’t know anymore. But the one thing I do know is that my body has been sending me some rather strong signals lately. I’ve had the terrible cravings for months that I try and deny, but they don’t go away, even when I refrain from eating the stuff for more than a week or two! I’ve also been having some symptoms of B-12 deficiency. B-12 is found mostly only in meat and dairy products. So I’m kicking up the supplementing to every 3rd day. I’ve also had sore gums lately and my candida is back.
I’m wondering… how do people go vegan and stay vegan? And why can’t I do it? How do they stay nourished? How do the lucky people doing 811rv eat that way without such horrible cravings, bad hair and other side effects? I am so jealous that people can eat that way and NOT have problems.
/End rant.
So this is my new “plan”
: Eat fruit all day until dinnertime, at which time I’ll have salad and eggs, or salad and yogurt. And a teaspoon or two of sunflower and/or pumpkin seeds. I did this yesterday and it worked beautifully. No cravings.
Speaking of which, I keep forgetting to get on the scale before glugging down my usual morning water! Grrr.
Anyway, I’ll keep you all updated as to whether the eggs work for my hair and/or cravings.
Onto non-dieting stuff… yesterday we got lots of strong thunderstorms here, and it was SO flooded everywhere. I ran to Whole Foods last night in the pouring rain and thunder/lightning. It was… interesting. Every street that I took had too much standing water. My car didn’t like it and was making a high-pitched squealing noise. The Whole Foods parking lot was flooded with at least 3 inches of water. I got soaked running only about 10 feet to the door of the store! Anyway, Fall is definitely here.
I didn’t do any packing yesterday… I’d better get back to it today!
