I was sick and tired of cheese and other fatty cravings… they seem to strike me on most days when I’m doing only fruit through the day.
So… I came up with a solution to get myself off the cheese and other fatty foods for good and eliminate cravings. So far it’s working – I’ve been doing it since Tuesday!
I’ve bought these “organic all-natural vegan” items in the past few days to have for lunch and/or dinner:
- Amy’s Vegan Veggie burger patties – 140 calories, all natural and made only with veggies, spices and grain! And delicious! (And no soy, to my delight).
- Van’s All-Natural Blueberry waffles (vegan and wheat-free)
- Some all-natural plain popcorn
- Organic all-natural hamburger buns
- Organic spelt bread
- A couple of the other Amy’s all-natural organic vegan dinner items (black bean burrito, etc)
I’ve eaten most of these things once or twice in the past few days and have had NO problems. Everything seems to digest fine and I don’t break out or get an upset stomach. The only item that is a little bad with sodium is the veggie burger, which is 18% of the daily amount. I wish I could add pasta in to have with lunch or dinner on some days, but as I’ve learned on more than one occasion, my body can’t deal with any type of it. (Wheat free, rice pasta, white pasta, etc). Oh well.
What I will do/have been doing for lunch and dinner is have one cooked vegan item, and either fruit and/or raw veggies on the side. And of course up until lunch, it’s only fruit, seeds and a few nuts.
I will continue to do this for a while and see how it goes and if my weight loss continues. It’s going great so far. The veggie burger is absolutely delicious! I use just a bit of mustard on it and it’s so good that I feel like I’m “cheating” with something absolutely sinful.
My main short-term goal is to eliminate all animal products. Once I’m off the cheese for a few weeks and no longer have cravings, I will make my next step, which will be to go back to high-raw fruitarian.
So what do you all think? I probably should have done it this way first. Going high-raw AND vegan at once it just too darn difficult.
In regards to exercise, I’ve been doing yoga, (M has showed me a couple more poses), the stairs and my airdyne. I feel body getting stronger by the day!

i love amys products. So yummy. The texas burgers are my favourite, i also love the no cheese, roasted veggie pizza. Their no cheese, bean burrito is awesome 2. Morningstar has some good vegan items as well, but they are usually really high in sodium. I like to stick to more natural ingredients, but every now and then i like to have their “ribs” or crumbles.
I have also had some of the vans waffles. I like to put almond butter on them
Lum, I’ve tried that pizza – it’s fantastic! I may have to pick another one of those up.
As for almond butter, well, I love love love it but choose not to keep it in the house. I can’t stop with just one (or two) servings.
Good idea–it’s probably better to transition into the lifestyle if it’s something you want to stick with.
If you are craving cheese, why not try some vegan nut cheese? There are some great recipes for it…it obviously won’t be exactly like regular cheese but it’s raw! You could also try the soy/veggie cheeses until you go full raw (but that might make it harder to get rid of cheese cravings since they taste so similar in my opinion!)
I think you’re doing a GREAT job!!! You seem to be way too hard on yourself! Just think of all of the GREAT things you have done – eliminated animal products, more exercise, less processed foods. Overall you have done wonderful things for your health. I would try to not be so hard on yourself and force yourself into the “box” of raw fruitarian… instead, listen to your body and give it what it needs. If you feel better off cheese, don’t eat cheese. If you feel great eating healthy veggie burgers, spelt bread, and other vegan items, go on ahead! These things are perfectly fine. I would not try to force yourself to eat raw if your body really does well with some cooked foods. You’re already eating SO healthy as it is… just keep it up and give yourself credit for all of the wonderful changes you’ve made!
Have you tried making raw cashew “cheese”? I saw a recipe on a website a few weeks ago and it supposed to help with cheese cravings. It might be something to try.

Katie and Kristin: I know I will try the vegan nut cheeses eventually! Katie, I’ve tried 2 soy fake cheeses and they were horrific. Never again. But the cashew cheese sounds delicious.
Rebecca: Thanks! Just curious where in my posts do you think I’m being too hard on myself? I’m not beating myself up or getting angry at myself with my mistakes, just looking for solutions with a positive frame of mind. And it’s been working!
I’ve tried the almond and rice cheeses and they both tasted the same, which was HORRIBLE. And they still contain some dairy.
Corn pasta is super yummy. You can buy it in the bulk food section at Whole Foods.
i have several food allergies and it’s gets easier. I’m allergic to eggs, dairy, soy, gluten intolerant (but not extremely) and also have noticed sensitivities to peanuts and the nightshades (potato, tomato…). I was very strict for about 9months and worked w/ a naturopathic doctor and am now at a nice point where I can eat the eggs, dairy and soy 2x a week and wheat/gluten 1x a week. I love the Amy’s products and the Van’s gf waffles too.
Rian, I just thought you seemed down on yourself in a lot of posts — feeling bad for eating a cooked vegan item every now and then and resolving to never do it again, and feeling like you should only eat raw. I think you’re doing great!! Keep up the good work! (I’m a longtime reader of your blog, btw, and it’s great to see that you have finally found something that works for you!)
That’s a lot of pre-packaged/processed foods on your grocery list. Making your own versions is way healthier, though more time-consuming. Good luck to you!
marlene, you are SO right! See today’s post. I remedied that situation.
