Whew is it hot out again! Heat index 102. Earlier when it was the same temperature on the heat index, I took a 25-minute power walk. Way too hot out but I really needed some sun (for Vitamin D). 25 minutes in the blazing sun thankfully wasn’t enough to get sick or have a heatstroke. I had ice-water with me and rubbed some on my face/forehead and sipped from the bottle.
Then I came home and did an amazing workout on my new Schwinn Airdyne. Yep – I traded M my elliptical for the Airdyne, which is a MUCH MUCH better workout. When I got off that thing I felt like I got a total body workout. (My arms are going to look amazing!) Then I did a few yoga poses that M had taught me. M will probably have me walk the stairs again later tonight. He also has a Total-Gym thing in his apartment that I might work out on.
All in all, about an hour of working out. To the point where my leg/arm muscles are a little sore. I swear I am noticing new changes in my body every day now. I think it’s from stepping up the exercise and being a strict vegan.
The amazing thing is that I actually want to work out a lot now. My body feels so amazing that I want to constantly ‘go go go’!
I haven’t done another 100% raw day since earlier this week, but that’s OK. I’ll do another one soon. Perhaps tomorrow. I’m going to slowly increase the days each week until I’m 100% all the time. Today I’ve had lots of pineapple, mango and some potato slices. Dinner is definitely going to be lots of melon. I have canary melon (which we tried this week and is delicious!), watermelon, and orange-flesh honeydew. I also have some romaine lettuce, tomatoes, English cucumbers and sunflower seeds to eat later.
I don’t know how I lucked out in getting such an amazing fitness/diet buddy who lives in my building, but I am so extremely grateful. This is really hard to do on your own!!! Especially when everyone around you eats nothing but mostly crap. M and I are spending a lot of time together now but it won’t always be that way, since I’m leaving on a road trip soon and he’s got some upcoming obligations.

Have you tried On Demand’s yoga videos? THere’s one I really like by Tom Morley (maybe I rec’d this to you before, but I don’t remember) – it’s called Cardio Yoga and it’s really awesome. It’s under the “lose the last 5lbs” section. If you have Comcast, definitely try it. I think Verizon might have a Tom Morley video too. His other one is called “Buns and Thighs Yoga” and it’s also nice. They’re both just 20 minutes.
Wow. Sounds like you and M are really starting something! Details please! What does he do, how old is he, etc. etc….
Hey, have you seen this news article?
New details about Michael Jackson’s Death Emerge
I was wondering if you were going to blog about this…
This is great Rian. M sounds like a great friend and inspiration. With time your family and friends may want to emulate your healthy lifestyle. Keep up the good work!
Glad it’s all going well and that you’re feeling good. I definitely need a work buddy, I feel like I spend most of my life justifying my reasons for eating good, healthy food.
Maggie: Not yet but I’ve been planning to soon. I also have a Yoga DVD here.
lila: Nope, we are just friends, although we do sometimes flirt a little. He’s a bit too old for me, unfortunately, although he doesn’t look it. Plus he’s not the ’settle down’ type since he splits his time in three states. But who knows what will happen in the future?
Amy: Thanks!
Sam: I hear ya…
“Especially when everyone around you eats mostly crap.”
Other than that though, congrats on your recent progress!
I’ve been following your blog sporadically for awhile now and I think it’s really great that you’ve found a way of eating that works for you, but since you always ask people to respect your new diet, I think it’s a little unfair that you categorize “everyone” else’s diet as “mostly crap.” There are clearly benefits to eating a raw diet, but that doesn’t mean that incorporating other food groups (bread, meat, dairy, etc) into a diet makes it crap. Yes, many Americans eat terribly, but there are many ways to eat healthfully, and each individual is different! Please don’t take this as an attack, I’m just hoping you’ll acknowledge that you can eat well without being a fruitarian
I have a blog post (not my blog nor do I know her) for you that I think you would like:
http://www.soapandchocolate.com/2009/06/nuts-for-beam-green.html
I was reading it and thought of you.
All about the benefits of eating raw in a workshop that the blogger went to.
VERY pro raw, and I thought this comment was interesting for you, though you probably know it already.
***If you are new to cleansing, be sure to keep some “good heroin” in your diet–foods that you love and which may not be optimally healthy but keep the body from detoxing too quickly and causing unpleasant “quitter’s flu” symptoms.***
Hey Petunia, thanks for the link. I’ll check it out! As for detox, I already know all about it. I’ve been doing this for about 3 months and did experience a lot of “cleansing”.
elisabeth, I’m just telling it like it is. The people around me DO eat lots of crap processed food and meat.
