Friday Update

Last night was a tough night… I was at my sister’s apartment until almost 2am. Things started “passing” with her (some of you will know what I mean) and it was pretty scary there for a while, I almost took her to the hospital. Actually I would have taken her back to the hospital but she refused to go. At one point she was as pale white as a sheet and was dizzy. I begged her to let me take her in but she refused, so I got her orange juice and had her sip it. Scary indeed! I had our older sister on the phone from California who also begged her to go. Anyway, things got better as the night progressed and I headed home for the night after her color returned to normal and things slowed down. (I didn’t leave until I was sure she was OK.) She is OK but this one hit her really hard and I’m terribly worried about her emotional state.

Anyway, onto other stuff… I ate mostly fruit yesterday because I wasn’t home and had brought stuff with me to eat at my sister’s. I will probably spend more time there tonight, and the good news is that I am going to get one of those mini-laptops from Verizon later today – the ones they keep advertising on TV that hook up to the internet virtually anywhere and you don’t have to leech someone’s wireless service. That way I’ll be able to always be connected and keep an eye on my sites. Right now I have a laptop but I discovered last night that my sister’s building doesn’t have any good wireless connections – only one unsecured that was so slow I couldn’t use it.

So, on my particular diet I’m supposed to eat non-sweet fruit every evening as well, stuff like tomatoes and cucumbers, plus celery and romaine, etc. It’s a lot of prep work to cut and peel things each night and I have a tendency to be lazy at times, so this was my solution:

saladmix

Chop up a bunch of fruit/veggies and put them in containers that should last for around 3 days! I’m going to do that every few days so that I always have stuff to munch on at night.

These two containers are filled with chopped celery, tomatoes, cucumbers and English cucumbers. Yum! I can’t believe I’m typing this but even raw celery appeals to my taste buds these days, which is absolutely astounding, given the fact that I hated it before.

For some reason the past few days I have had almost no appetite. Today especially – I tried eating mango at breakfast and just had a few slices. Lunch I nibbled on some of the veggies pictured above. The Natural Hygiene lifestyle suggests not eating when you aren’t physically hungry – it’s your body’s way of telling you it’s busy doing something else and doesn’t want to be interrupted by digesting food. So I am going to listen to my body and maybe only nibble on something if I get hungry again. But I’m drinking plenty of water. I seem to have a good level of energy and don’t feel bad.

Anyways, TGIF! I’m supposed to be going to Branson at some point next week, but I don’t know what my friend’s schedule is like. So my trip may be postponed. I’m also starting to prepare for my trip to So Cal…

Quick Thursday Update

in Updates

Yesterday late morning I got on the scale and it was down 4 pounds from the day before! Wow…! Basically my weight had gone back up to 160.8 on Tuesday morning (from 159 on Saturday). Then yesterday morning the scale said 156.8! This morning it read 157.

Things are going amazing diet-wise… still no cravings. But yesterday was a very sad day because my younger sister was in the hospital most of the day/evening… I was down there with her for about 7 hours. Suffice it is to say she was pregnant but no longer is. Very very sad day indeed.

Since I was gone most of the day I barely ate much of anything, although I did bring a bunch of bananas with me to the hospital. I ended up eating 2 of them myself (giving the rest to my niece and sister). I ran home around 7pm, ate 3 more bananas and had some potato slices, then went back over to my sister’s house. Basically all I had to eat yesterday was heavenly mango, bananas, a handful of sunflower seeds, a few brazil nuts and potato slices. Definitely not what I would consider a “healthy” day.

Today I’ve had about 432 grams of mango (yeah I weighed it to get the nutritional value!) and a spoonful of raw honey. I’m about to leave for a power walk. I have tons of bananas I need to eat today – I’m going to try really hard to eat at least 8 of them. Also some cantaloupe, grapes, tomatoes and romaine. I have some pineapples ripening on my counter too.

Fruit, fruit and more fruit…!

I am noticing some real changes in my body in the past couple of days as well… my waist has gone in considerably. I need to get a tape measure.

I’ve notice my skin has gotten extremely soft again, and my “allergy” rash has all but disappeared (the one on the side of my foot), and my cracked irritated fingers have healed about 80%. I guess this means I am at least mildly allergic to wheat… last week when my rash was awful and fingers were raw, dry and cracked, I was eating whole wheat (organic) pasta almost every day. Since cutting it out over the weekend, the problems have nearly vanished.

I’m a little bummed out because I was hoping to be able to enjoy a good pasta meal once a week or so. But alas, it is not to be. If it’s causing my body that much irritation, I shouldn’t be eating it at all!

By the way, I know many vegans don’t believe in eating honey. I still consider myself in transition so I don’t think it’s too bad. I love having a teaspoon before a workout…

I'm A Fruitarian

I’m pretty much a fruitarian at this point… it seems all my body wants lately is fruit, with a little greens and veggies. The past couple days have been really good – cravings have subsided. In fact, the last time I cheated (a few days ago), I was in the middle of eating a cooked meal with cheese on it, and about halfway through the meal I stopped, looked at the food and thought to myself, “This stuff is awful, it isn’t real food.” And I threw the rest away.

I believe that was a turning point because ever since doing that, I haven’t wanted anything cooked except baked potato strips, which I still allow myself on many days.

I eat when I’m hungry. It’s pretty simple. When I’m not hungry, I don’t eat.

Anyway, I was at Whole Foods yesterday and imagine my surprise to find tons of partially-ripened organic bananas there! Not only were many of them partially ripened, but they were ripened correctly – no black lines. Perfect spotted ones. So I grabbed a few bunches of them and will mostly be eating bananas and mango today. They’ve been having these incredibly delicious mangoes there lately as well that I’ve been getting.

^^^Perfect bananas

^^^Perfect bananas

So indeed since I eat probably 90% of my calories as fruit, I’m definitely a fruitarian at this point. Just like I wanted to be…

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope you all have a fun day.

I’m hanging out at home with my sister and niece, who are over visiting, and they want to order pizza. I am so NOT in the mood for pizza or to blow my diet (as I did that yesterday anyway!) but they are the guests and really putting pressure on me. Argh. There is no way I’ll be able to resist it once it’s in my apartment in front of me. I keep offering them salad, tons of fruit, seeds, raw snacks, potatoes, crinkle fries, etc – and NOPE, they want pizza or crap junk food.

Later edit:

Well I put my foot down on the pizza! I offered to drive everyone to the store and get something healthy but non-vegan, but she said no. Instead we ate some more fruit and then we all went for a walk along the river! :-) I ended up eating very cleanly today plus got some exercise, and I was a good influence to my sister/niece.

Quick Saturday Update

Sorry I haven’t been updating much the past few days… the new forums are keeping me pretty busy!

Anyway, I’m doing a LOT better and I’ve had 2 successful days in a row on 811rv. The normal cravings have come and gone but I’ve managed to resist, so far. I am feeling pretty good this morning but I overslept and missed the Farmer’s Market again

pineapple1

I cut up two nice large pineapples today and put them in containers, which I need to eat in the next couple of days. The pineapple is really ripe and sweet. Pure heaven. I really think I was meant to live in the tropics and eat nothing but tropical fruits, like bananas, pineapples, mangos, etc etc. Speaking of which, I have several large mangoes I need to try and eat in the next few days, plus 6 bananas that are ripening. And lots of grapes, some peaches and nectarines, and some oranges. And pears.

I’ve been keeping up on my exercise and it’s definitely making a difference in the way I feel. My stamina is up pretty high – even for the elliptical – and I’m never in any pain during my exercise.

I will be weighing myself once PMS/TOM is over in another week or so.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial day weekend! I’ll likely be updating again before it’s over.

I've Been Struggling

by Rian on May 21, 2009 · 4 comments

in Updates

I’ve been struggling to eat the diet that I most want to eat, which is the 811rv: lots of fresh sweet fruit, plenty of fresh non-sweet fruit, and some greens.

Last night I was a little upset and discouraged because I failed once again to stick to the plan.

However, I woke up today with a great attitude and absolute determination to stick to this once and for all.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 31 1/2 years on this earth, it’s that almost nothing worthwhile comes easy. So I’m going to keep on trying. I will get this eventually, and go on to become the slimmest, healthiest and most vibrant version of myself as possible. I truly believe this.

I’m going to keep trying until I get this thing once and for all, dammit!

So I’m back on Day 1 of 811rv…
