I ignored last night’s cravings and stayed in… thank goodness I didn’t give in! The stupid Superbowl commercials are responsible for my Cheeze-It cravings… grrrr.

So I figured out what was causing my neck and shoulder pain – my pillow. It was a special, expensive pillow that I bought maybe six months ago. Last night I was reading in bed and my neck just got worse and worse, so finally I switched that pillow with the guest pillow on my bed, and… pain went away!

Anyway, I lost another half pound or so on the scale… although it’s a little hard to tell with the dial scale, as it doesn’t do half pounds. But the scale is getting ready to do a MDR – middle digit rollover, which is exciting. I haven’t been out of this particular range of numbers for several months now (except for about a week a couple months ago). The weight loss is happening a bit slower than I had hoped, but… there is not much I can do about it except to keep on going!

I’m planning to take a walk today, as it’s in the 60’s outside and sunny. Then a bit later I’m meeting my cousin’s wife at Whole Foods for a meal. Hopefully their cafe food is healthy and clean, as I’ll likely settle on a salad. After that I’m going to head over to my sister’s place and bring her some organic oranges and sunflower seeds. I’m trying to encourage my younger sister and niece to eat healthier, especially with the HFCS (High Fructose corn Syrup) mercury scare. Their pantry is loaded with nothing but MSG, Aspartame and HFCS-loaded crap.

I’ve been feeling since late last night like I have low sodium (electrolyte), with a feeling of weakness, heaviness and a few leg muscle spasms. This is unfortunately common for me to get while losing weight, so I am going up sprinkle some sea salt on my food today and mix a little with the water that I’m taking on my walk. That usually seems to do the trick! (And if it doesn’t, I’ll take a few sips of the V8 juice I have in the fridge for this very purpose).

Friday Night Cravings

I should be out right now… but decided to stay home. I had a full day of feeling absolutely healthy, amazing and extremely clear-headed. But about an hour ago (around 7pm) I started feeling exhausted… and I started craving junk food for some reason! I am going crazy with cravings for burgers (from Burger King), Cheez Its (used to be addicted to them) and alcohol.

How weird… I wonder what’s causing these cravings?

Oh well. I’m staying in tonight and going to bed early!

Friday Update

TGIF!!

My lunch:

That’s plain yogurt with a sprinkling of cinnamon, which is supposed to be good for the blood sugar. There is also a romaine herb lettuce salad with tri-colored bell peppers, carrots, and sesame seeds. There’s a small piece of sharp cheddar thrown in for good measure.

I am feeling fabulous today!!! Despite waking up with a painful neck and shoulders AGAIN, I got up, ate my now-usual breakfast, worked out on my elliptical, and took the following supplements (which I know are contributing towards my “good” feeling): 2 coconut oil capsules, 1 kelp tablet (which has iodine in it – needed for detoxification of impurities, plus helps the thyroid), 1 chewable sugar-free Vitamin C/E tablet (sweetened with stevia), and a Zinc tablet.

I am planning to have an organic chicken breast and veggies for dinner. Later tonight I may be going out to a restaurant with some friends, but I refuse to touch anything at the restaurant except perhaps salad and mineral water. We usually go to Ihop or Village Inn (yuck to both), which are unfortunately two of the only restaurants that stay open late around here. Ihop has a great-tasting chicken ceasar salad, but they – like most other restaurants – flavor the salad with MSG and other artificial seasonings. No thanks!

I finally stepped on the scale this morning, and lo and behold I am down another couple of pounds! So I have checked off the -10 pounds box in the sidebar.

Later Update

in Meals, Updates

Now I see why people who eat salmon are so thin… it’s SO filling and so full of vitamins. It seems like anything with higher amounts of Omega 3 are very filling… such as fish and omega-3 eggs. I just had some wild white king salmon with some spinach and a small romaine herb salad. Delicious and filled me up. I didn’t end up having salmon yesterday as planned… instead just had some organic sharp cheddar and spinach and veggies for dinner. I didn’t have any meat yesterday, as I just didn’t feel like eating any of it.

Honestly, I haven’t been eating much for the past couple of days… If I added up the calories, it would be WAY too low. But why eat if you aren’t hungry? I’ll grab a spoonful of sunflower or pumpkin seeds or ounce of cheese in between meals. Yesterday and today I only had 2 actual meals, and felt more than satisfied. I guess after years of mostly overeating, my body is telling me I don’t need so much food. I am, however, making sure to eat only vitamin-filled foods, plus taking a few supplements on the side. What I need to do tomorrow is get out in the sun for a good 30 minutes to get some Vitamin D. It’s supposed to be in the 50’s tomorrow, so I’ll be taking a walk.

This is what I’ve eaten today:

Breakfast- 1 yogurt (no berries or eggs this morning), 2 cups coffee -one with a tsp of coconut oil, one with a tsp of honey, both with half and half and stevia.
Snack- 1 tsp of pumpkin seeds and an organic fruit and nut snack bar.
Dinner- 2 ounces sharp cheddar, white wild salmon (with basil, garlic pepper and olive oil & a dash of organic butter), spinach, romaine herb lettuce, mineral water

Today as I got home from running errands (while feeling a little lightheaded, possibly from low blood sugar) I immediately reached for the romaine herb lettuce in my fridge. Now if THAT isn’t a miracle, I don’t know what is.

So… I redesigned my bathroom this evening… for the past 14 months I’ve had a light pink, tan and beige color scheme. I changed it to a tan, beige and forest green color. I also bought a new scale – this time, a semi-expensive dial scale. I got on and off it a few times to calibrate it but didn’t look at the numbers… too scared! I also redesigned my bedroom last week – changed it to light blue, beige, dark brown and dark blue. It’s very calming and peaceful now when I step into my bedroom. Before that, I’d had a deep red, gold and beige scheme going. NOT conductive to peaceful harmony!

Thursday Update

in Updates

The better vision phenomenon is continuing… I’m not sure what to do at this point. If my contacts are too strong to wear than I can’t wear them… and my eye doctor is back in New Hampshire! I could just go with only wearing glasses but I need sunglasses when outdoors. Hmm. Maybe I’ll give my eye doc a call anyway.

So, I’ve had a terrible pain in my neck since yesterday. Unfortunately I’ve had to take some Advil. I’m not sure what is causing it – it’s like a stiff neck, almost. Very painful. I’ve tried stretching, exercises, massager, etc to no avail. Even after 3 Advil it hurts!

Anyway, my jeans are swimming on my hips now… my bras are all looser, and my neck seems to have gotten smaller. :-D (I’m one of those unfortunate people who carry any extra weight in my chin and neck. A family gene curse).

I will update more later.

Weird Stuff

OK this sounds really weird, but… I think my eyesight has improved in the past couple of days.

Yes, you read that right… something weird is going on. My contact lens prescription suddenly seems too strong – the same prescription I’ve been wearing for almost a year now! And weirdly enough, I can suddenly see a lot better with my glasses. (Usually it’s the other way around – I can see better with my contacts).

I am going to wait and see if it continues… it’s too good to be true, after all. Improved diet can’t improve vision, can it?!

Wednesday Morning Update

So, I learned that I don’t much care for Sockeye (red) salmon… too many tiny bones. Too bad, since it’s one of the most vitamin-rich salmon out there. However, I love the white King salmon. I will be having a fillet today, in fact, late this afternoon for a late lunch.

So I’ve discovered the perfect breakfast for me. It is healthy and leaves me full and satisfied with no blood sugar problems (even after 4+ hours!) It is…

  • A mixture of organic berries – raspberries, blueberries and blackberries (about a cup)
  • 2 Omega 3 organic eggs, hard boiled
  • 1 container of Brown Cow all-natural nonfat yogurt (chocolate, vanilla and coffee flavors are unbelievably delicious!)
  • 1 glass of hot water with lemon squeezed in
  • 1 or 2 cups coffee with Benefiber stirred in, 3/4 tsp of raw organic honey, stevia and organic half and half.

I have decided to have this breakfast indefinitely… Brown Cow yogurt is the best tasting yogurt I have ever had. Much better than Dannon and Yoplait, both of which are loaded with chemicals.

EmergenC also has artificial sweeteners in it, which really shouldn’t surprise anyone given how sweet it is at such a low level of calories.

Anyway, I once again resisted the temptation to get on the scale… I also woke up feeling kind of crappy this morning but it has gone away now!

Quick Tuesday Night Update

by Rian on January 27, 2009 · 4 comments

in Miscellaneous, Updates

I’m going stir crazy here in my apartment! Arghghggh! I have been home alone for two straight days now… roads are terrible and they may not be much better tomorrow.

I’m not bored, but just getting cabin fever. I’ve been busy with stuff all day, but I am dying to get out… if I could find my hat and gloves from NH, I would walk down to the convenience store that’s about a 10 minute walk. But I can’t find them, and it’s in the teens out.

Anyway, I just realized something that is absolutely amazing:

I haven’t had to take any Advil in over 6 or 7 days. That is a MIRACLE! I usually have to take it daily for some ailment or another.

But I’m around a week clean of the stuff. I’ve had little headaches on and off, but if I wait them out, they go away pretty quickly. Or if they are the neck/back of the head headaches I get, I go at them with my neck massager, which works quite well to get rid of the pain.

Yet another major plus to my new clean & healthy lifestyle… :-)

Tuesday Update

by Rian on January 27, 2009

in Miscellaneous, Updates

I managed to avoid the temptation to step on the scale today.

Anyway, today is day 2 of the ice storm… here is the view from my balcony this morning:

It’s more ice than snow. I’m stuck indoors, as most roads are virtually skating rinks. (Why don’t they take care of the damn roads out here like they do in the northeast?!?!) It’s currently pouring ice out there right now. The power has flickered a few times already in my building… it tends to flicker a lot in bad storms but rarely goes out completely, due to the power lines being underground. (In the December 2007 ice storm where 85% of people in Tulsa and surrounding areas lost power, my building was one of the few that didn’t).

Anyway, today’s breakfast was 2 Omega-3 organic eggs, 1 Brown Cow all-natural coffee-flavored yogurt (delicious), and half a cup of organic berries. I got full on this meal, believe it or not. Plus 2 cups of coffee – one with 3/4 of a tsp of raw organic honey (2 tsp of Benefiber, some organic half and half), the other with 1/2 tsp of organic virgin coconut oil, which is supposed to be VERY good for you. I cooked with it yesterday and felt fantastic most of the day.

I’m not having any fish today… instead, it’ll be a chicken breast and veggies or salad for lunch, and a turkey breast and veggies or salad for dinner. Snacks will be raw sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Sounds boring I enjoy everything I eat now immensely.

Not much else to update… I’m going to work out on my elliptical in a little while and probably get some laundry done. I am also feeling a strange compulsion to clean my apartment from top to bottom.

Monday Update

in Food Photos, Meals, Organic Foods, Updates

Well, we are in the middle of yet another bad ice storm, and I think I’m going to be stuck at home for the next couple of days! I’m supposed to go somewhere later tonight with a friend, but I don’t trust anyone’s driving on the pure ice that is now coating the roads pretty badly. It’s raining at 27 degrees out… NOT a good combo. And I refuse to drive in this crap myself. I hope it doesn’t get bad enough to knock out the power or any services…! I think I’ll take the time stuck at home to catch up on laundry, some of my other websites, and maybe even utilize the building’s gym.

Anyway, I am currently eating the most delicious-tasting turkey breast cutlet that I’ve ever had… I oven-roasted it with a bit of olive oil, organic butter, cilantro and garlic pepper. To go along with it, I am having a romaine-herb salad with sliced tomatoes and colored bell peppers topped with organic sesame seeds:

Yum. Just a week ago, this salad would have tasted incredibly bland. But since detoxing my taste buds from chemicals and toxins located in processed foods, fresh food has become incredibly delicious. (And I promise you I am NOT exaggerating).

Overall I’m feeling pretty good today, although I was extremely tired this morning and did not want to get up. My waist, hips, thighs and stomach areas all feel smaller today. Scale is still reading the same number as yesterday though. I really need to stop weighing myself every day… I will see more dramatic results if I only do it once a week.

In any case, I will report on my weight loss one week from today… I know my weight stats are confusing since I never reveal the actual number to you all. I am going to start keeping track of the weight I lose again in the sidebar. The goal of -55 pounds is from my highest-ever weight, not my current weight (which is 8 pounds less than my highest-ever weight).

Anyway, I have my dinner all planned out… it’s going to be oven-baked wild Alaskan sockeye salmon and spinach. Perhaps some berries for dessert since I didn’t have them with my breakfast.

Another successful day has been completed!
I’ve been doing a sort-of “carbs only in the morning”, fresh and healthy-food plan now for about a week.
As mentioned in a previous post, I’m going through periods of detox. I no longer eat ANY processed food (except organic cheese and natural low fat yogurt, which I believe [...]

Non-diet related post ahead…
As I may have mentioned in previous posts, I currently live in a 32-story circular building in downtown Tulsa, OK. It’s generally a quiet place, but for some reason, the last 24 hours here have required 911 to be called twice. Last night, around midnight or so, a young girl [...]
