To say I am excited about these new soups (from Whole Foods) would be an understatement…
Mmmmmmm! This goes right along with my soup-heavy diet quite well.
So far I have only tried the Garden Tomato flavor – I’m eating some of it now in fact – and it’s very, very good.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but Whole Foods is simply my favorite food/grocery store EVER. It’s even better than Trader Joe’s.
In other news, I’ve begun my latest antibiotics regime. It’s Augmentin, which is a strong version of Amoxicillin and another drug. It makes me very nauseated and dizzy, but I’m dealing with it. And in combination with hydrocodone, which I’m taking for pain, is a real bag o’ fun. (NOT). For some reason this round of Tonsillitis has been very painful – my neck/throat glands were hurting so bad the other day that it nearly brought me to tears.
Hydrocodone (which is Vicodin and Lortab in generic form) is a narcotic painkiller that some people can get addicted to. Oddly enough instead of making me tired, it actually gives me strange OCD-like behavior. After taking one, I sometimes feel the strangest urge to obsessively clean my apartment or do some grueling and tedious website work. I wonder why it does this to me? About 30 minutes after taking one this morning, I cleaned my bedroom from top to bottom and then organized my book collection. I recall that Percocet (Oxycodone) did this to me too when I was taking it after some oral surgery. Interesting…
Anyway, I’m going to keep up with the vitamins, healthy eating and healthy sleeping hours and I am confident that I will kick this damn infection once and for all!

I am so happy to be up right now! It’s 7am and I am just starting my day like most people. Usually due to my sleeping issues I’m going to bed around this time (or even later in the day). However, I have spent the last week or two slowly changing back over to a regular schedule. It’s been difficult but this is day 2 of my being up before sunrise and going to bed at night.
So yesterday T and I went to the Tulsa Aeronautics and Space Museum and Planetarium. I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned it here or not but lately I’ve become a major science and astronomy fanatic, so the excursion was pretty fun. T is also a science/astronomy nut and we have been watching tons of documentaries and shows and reading all kinds of books. The more I read and learn, the more I want to know. The longer I stay sober, the sharper my brain seems to be getting, which is fabulous!
Anyway, the new diet plan is going well although last night I blew it when T and I ordered some Mexican food. I didn’t eat much of it though. I went to the doctor’s again yesterday afternoon because not only were my ears hurting, but my throat glands were badly swollen and hurting. And it will probably come as no surprise to anyone that I have Tonsillitis yet AGAIN. They gave me a new round of antibiotics that I have yet to start taking.

Ok so I finally got on the scale this morning and it wasn’t pretty… I am back up a couple of pounds for some reason. Weirdly enough I barely ate a thing at Christmas yesterday! So I have no idea what’s going on, as usual.
Anyway, I’ve discovered through recent culinary adventures that soup, meat and veggies really tend to fill me up. So from now on, those will be the main staples of my diet. I’ve put together a plan that goes something like this:
1st meal: Either brown rice & berries or plain oatmeal & berries
2nd meal: Thick veggies soup – either butternut squash, broccoli or red pepper/tomato, plus a piece of fruit
3rd meal: grilled fish (shrimp, salmon or scallops) & veggies & some salad
4th meal: chicken or egg whites, veggies, piece of cheddar, piece of fruit if I’m hungry
Snacks if needed: small handful of raw sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds
Lots and lots of water (to make up for the extra sodium I’ll be ingesting)
The 4th meal and snacks are optional and will only be eaten if I am hungry enough.
Anyway, I’ve begun this plan today already. It’s pretty much a low carb plan with the only real carb meal being the first one of the day. We’ll see how it goes…! Thankfully I enjoy most of the foods on this plan. There will be a little increased sodium from the soup, but I will offset it with extra water.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
In other news I am having major sinus/throat problems again. My boyfriend is too. Taking Claritin helps a bit, so likely it’s some sort of allergy. Who knows? Who cares at this point? I guess it’s just going to be something I am going to have to live with until it decides to go away.

There is just too much candy available this time of year.

So… the other day, I made my boyfriend and myself a healthy meal that was surprisingly filling, given the low calorie content. I began us each off with about a cup of roasted red-pepper and tomato soup (100 calories). Then we moved onto a small bowl of steamed veggies each (45 calories). Then we each had 1 fillet of grilled lemon butter salmon (100 calories).
It was all very healthy and light… and guess what? We were both STUFFED! I couldn’t finish all of my veggies. He left a couple of bites of fish behind. Now, the two of us have been known to stuff ourselves with Mexican and other junk food from time to time. So it’s kind of weird that we got so stuffed on a 245 calorie meal, right?
I thought about it for a while and have come up with two theories. Firstly, I’d heard the rumor that eating a healthy soup before a meal cuts back on your appetite, but I never believed it until now… has anyone else experienced this?
Secondly, is it possible that since it was such a healthy meal that our stomachs – after getting the nutrition we needed at the given time – sent much earlier signals to our brain that our stomachs were full? I mean, my boyfriend can easily put down a full fast food meal – several times the calorie content and volume of what I served. I wonder if – while consuming unhealthy and nutritionally void fast/junk food – that our brains simply don’t signal our stomachs until we are literally full?
It’s worth a thought.
Anyway, I plan to eat this dinner every night this week, which some light alterations made, like trading out the soup for a different type (maybe butternut squash) and replacing the fish with chicken every other night. I’m also trying to eat a similar lunch except with a piece of fruit thrown in for good measure.

So this is day 4 with very little (less than 3 hours) of sleep. What on earth is the matter with me?! I am so pissed and irritated.
