Taking a Break

April 15th, 2008 by Rian | 3 Comments | Filed in Miscellaneous

Hey everyone, I’m doing fine right now. I’m finally getting back into my daily exercise and healthy eating mode.

I just need a bit of a break from both this blog and the internet in general (although the latter isn’t going to happen anytime soon!)

So I will be back here to update at some point in the near future. Maybe a couple of days, maybe a couple of months.

Update

Not much to update other than the fact that I still feel absolutely, positively terrible. The damn doctors around here don’t seem to know anything and don’t give you anything to make you feel better.

I mean, what kind of doctor would try and prescribe you an antibiotic for… anxiety, sleeplessness, upset stomach, skyrocketing blood pressure and other things? I don’t even have a damn fever! Why not prescribe me something so I can sleep? Perhaps something that will calm me or my stomach down?

I really don’t understand many doctors… all they ever want to do is prescribe antibiotics. Why not prescribe something that would actually make the patient FEEL better?!

Sorry, had to get that rant out…

I’ll try and update more later.

I Can’t…

… remember a time when I felt this ill.

Managed to get to the urgent care, got checked over. The doctor thinks I have either severe allergies or a chest infection. I’m going to try first to take some over the counter chest pressure reliever and an OTC allergy med. If that doesn’t work within a couple days, he’s going to prescribe me some antibiotics.

Allergies alone wouldn’t make a person’s feel this way! Not only is my blood pressure through the roof but I feel weak, shaky and can’t keep food inside of me.

I’ll update later when I’m feeling better!

Storms And Sickness

April 8th, 2008 by Rian | 2 Comments | Filed in Miscellaneous

Well it’s 6am and I’ve been up pretty much all night.

I went to bed around midnight, but was woken up at 3:30am by tornado sirens and very loud thunder. (Supposedly, a tornado touched down somewhere not too far from where I am). Of course, usually a tornado siren would send me into a panic. But I live in a 32-story concrete building in downtown Tulsa, so it doesn’t worry me too much. Anyway, my sister was frantically calling me because she saw on the news that there were funnel clouds in my area. But my phone was in the living room and I was in bed in my room, so I didn’t hear it. I was so tired from my recent lack of sleep that I ignored the loud thunder and sirens for as long as I could. But then it got so loud that I couldn’t ignore it. I got up and called my sister back, who lives 9 miles southeast of me. She was totally freaking out.

Now, I’ve seen some storms in my time in New Hampshire - they have some really nasty ones in the early to late summer. But this one… wow. I have to give the midwest props for allowing me to experience one of the most incredible thunderstorms I have ever seen in my life. I tried to get some pictures but it was too dangerous to be outside in all that mess. That’s OK… I have no doubt that I’ll soon be able to get some good storm pictures. :-) After all, it’s Spring and I’m in the midwest…

I tried to go back to bed around 5am, but it just didn’t happen. I feel terrible physically - there is a weird tightness in my chest that is getting worse by the day. It’s to the point that I feel like I can’t breathe! As soon as this storm lightens up (yep, it’s still raging), I’m heading for the walk-in urgent care. I have been feeling “weird” and having this tightness in my chest for over a week now, and now it’s really worrying me. Something is definitely wrong. Everyone I know out here is sick - all of my family members, that is. But none of them have this crushing chest tightness. I’ve had this on and off since my last few days in Nashua…

Ahhh

Ahhh. There is nothing - and I mean NOTHING - like watching a [severe] thunderstorm roll in, standing on your balcony, feeing the warm wind whip through your hair, hearing the thunder boom loudly, seeing the lightning flash constantly, hearing and seeing the rain and hail suddenly begin pounding down with a vengeance…

LATER UDPATE:

OMG THIS IS THE WORST STORM I’VE EVER SEEN OR HEARD IN MY LIFE!!!!!! HOLY CRAP. TORNADO SIRENS GOING OFF AND ALL.

Monday Update With Pictures

Well, it’s 9:30am, the temperature is supposed to shoot up to 75 degrees today, the birds are singing outside and despite having gotten a really bad night’s sleep, I am in a very good mood!

Springtime always makes me happy.

This is the current view off of my balcony (9th floor):

MAJOR difference… eh? :-) Tulsa is green and blooming right now!

I may post a new picture of me later on that was taken Saturday. I had my sister take a shot of me, and I was actually really surprised. I used to look ENORMOUS in photos. Now? I look average-sized. I am eagerly awaiting the day I actually look fit and trim in photos. Just a few more months…

Anyway, I still feel a bit “under the weather” from my road trip and probably from all the alcohol drinking I did in NH. As a matter of fact, my aunt has talked me into seeing a doctor to make sure that I’m OK. I’ve been having some weird symptoms happening to me for the last few days - panic attack/anxiety type of symptoms. So making an appointment for a physical is on my mile-long list of things to do today… I arrived home to almost 3 months of mail and TONS of magazines piled up on my dining table. My apartment is a mess because I haven’t finished unpacking, either. (I spent most of the weekend lazing around watching Grey’s Anatomy DVDs and visiting family). It turns out that the post office screwed up big time with my mail. When I removed the mail forwarding from NH to Tulsa in January, about half of my mail was still being sent here to Tulsa! Which explains why I wasn’t getting most of the stuff I should have been, including some bills.

This is only some of the magazines and mail that arrived in my absence:

Yep, I have my work cut out for me today!

Also on today’s agenda: possibly go buy a bicycle; work out - either a speed walk along the river or on my elliptical. Not sure which, but I’m definitely going to be working out again today.

Ahh yes, and I may luck out and get some good storm photos later today, as some “strong storms” have been predicted for this afternoon. I have always, ALWAYS wanted to get a picture of lightning. (Yes, I’m a geek through and through).
