Tuesday Update

February 19th, 2008 by Rian | No Comments | Filed in Miscellaneous

So today is Tuesday… which is usually the day I go play pool and have a few drinks with my friend B.

However, I’ve been doing much too much of that lately. So what I’m going to do instead is… go play one game of pool with him, have one glass of cabernet, then around 9pm, head back to the gym for a second workout because my first was cut a little short earlier today. I will probably work out on the spinning machine for about 40 minutes and possibly the treadmill.

And yes, I’ve already gone to the gym today once… did a great workout for 30 minutes on the elliptical. A super hot guy that was using a machine two down from the one I was on motivated me to go faster than I was. (When someone near me starts going really fast, I feel like I have to increase my speed too!) Haha. So I got the machine up to level 6 and increased my speed quite a bit.

Foodwise, I did OK today. I just totaled the calories I’ve had so far and it comes to about 735 (nutritious calories, I might add), so I guess I’ll eat something with higher calories for dinner in a couple hours. Appetite is still blah.

Later Update:

It’s midnight… I’m going to bed soon, but wanted to update. I did absolutely fabulously today. No alcohol at all… (ended up having two glasses of water at the bar), two separate workouts as planned, lots of veggies, salad, fruit, lean protein… finished the day out at 1600 calories or so.

Monday

So… today was in the high 50’s here in Nashua, NH. Amazing! Of course, it’s also raining, but that’s OK. 50’s to me with this humidity feels like 70 degrees.

Today my legs were STILL hurting… I really did a number on them in Boston! My friend B told me today that he was also still in pain. I love it… I think I’ll be going down there one day this week to look at apartments. (Yeah, I’m going to look into moving there.) Walking several miles plus going up and down stairways must be better exercise than even the elliptical because that never gives me true muscle pain like this. (The good pain, not a strain or injury pain).

So moving on… I didn’t go to the gym today. I decided to give my body an additional day to heal its muscles. As for my appetite… I’m not sure really what it’s doing. I did eat a bowl of Total this morning and had some pineapple chunks. For lunch, I had a protein shake. Nothing else has been consumed today and I’m not sure that I’ll have anything else.

Let me explain… you all know how I was in that “not hungry, everything looks unappetizing and disgusting” mode? Well I am pretty sure it has ended. Now what has taken its place is a “I really don’t care if I eat or not” attitude. Food no longer sounds disgusting, but at the same time, I don’t go out of my way to eat.

I just don’t know anymore about this whole eating thing. I’ve been using food lately exactly as it was originally intended: as energy. I don’t use it for pleasure or enjoyment or excess anymore. For instance, Saturday night, I only had those appetizers because I knew I had to get some fuel in me. I wasn’t hungry at all.

However, one thing that I have decided to do is cut out dairy, high fat and high sugar products. Not that I eat many of the latter to begin with. But I realized that I eat WAY too much dairy, and I think it’s one of the reasons that my weight loss has slowed down. I eat too much yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese and milk. WAY too much. So from now on, it’s lean protein, veggies and fruit with a bit of healthy carbs thrown in for good measure. For instance, I got some brown organic rice bowls and dairy, wheat and gluten free waffles. Also, healthy and low sugar cereals are allowed. I got Soy Slender milk to replace regular milk. Pretty much everything I got is gluten and wheat free (except for the cereal).

I’m going to try this out for a while and see if it makes a difference in any area. I really, REALLY need to lose another 20 pounds or so… I’m getting so frustrated with the numbers I’m seeing on the scale! It’s been four months, and something drastic needs to change. And soon.

Lots of Exercise Yesterday

February 17th, 2008 by Rian | 5 Comments | Filed in Miscellaneous

I got a LOT of exercise yesterday. B and I walked around Boston, got a bit turned around on the subway, which caused us to have to go up and down several sets of stairs many times. My thighs and legs were aching more last night than after any of my gym sessions…

It was really cold there yesterday too, which means extra calories burned. We missed the bus, so I ended up driving us to the Wellington station, where I parked and we took the Orange line to North Station, where we then took the Green line to the Boston Common. B took a picture of me, which I’m debating posting here.

So then, we watched the ice skaters for a while, then walked in the 20 degrees (give or take) all the way to the Prudential mall, where I went to Saks and bought some new sunglasses. Then from there, we walked over to Mass Ave, then ended up near the Boston Symphony. We decided to try and find Fenway on the Green line, and got kind of turned around. The subway was packed to capacity every time we got on, which sucked. A cute guy told us that we had to take the D train to get to Fenway. So we did.

More stairs, more walking… we finally found Boston Billiards on Brookline, and went there for a couple hours and shot a couple games of pool. By this point in the day, I had only had 1/3 of a protein bar and the 3/4 of a sub sandwich. It was 8pm by then and we still weren’t hungry, but decided to get a couple of appetizers anyway. I had three mozzarella sticks and 1 buffalo wing.

From there, we walked over to Jillian’s, which was really fun but too crowded. So we left after having a drink (a seabreeze), then we went a couple doors down to a place called Bill’s (something or other). A heavy metal band was playing, can’t recall the name of it! Then we went to a final place back on Brookline. Finally, it was time to go home… I had switched to drinking water for the last couple hours of the night because I knew I had to be sober for the drive home from Revere.

Thank goodness SOMEONE was sober… B had had a few too many and actually fell flat on his behind on the Green line back to North Station! Kind of embarrassing… we had to switch to another train, then yet another since they are doing construction on the orange line.

Anyway… that was my adventure in Boston yesterday. My legs are hurting pretty badly today. Around four hours of walking, countless stairways up and down… great exercise! I’m taking it easy today though - no gym. As a matter of fact, I’m probably going to just stay home tonight, for the first time in a while.

Upbeat

I am resolving to be more upbeat in this blog from now on. I’m tired of complaining about everything!

So that said… I have some good news: my appetite is back. It’s 9:30am and I’m EATING and enjoying it! Yay! As a matter of fact, I’m eating a sub - ham, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Perhaps it’s not the healthiest thing to have in the morning but… who cares?! I’m eating. (I can’t eat the whole thing because my stomach has shrunk over the last week or so, but I am having about 3/4 of it, at least 300 calories).

I’m going to try and do the five/six small meals thing today.

More than likely I’ll be going to work out today, possibly in an hour or two.

Later Edit:

1. Appetite isn’t really back, that was a fluke this morning;
2. No gym today. Instead…
3. I’m going down to Boston again with my friend B! Looking forward to it, it will be a lot of walking.
4. My friend J is coincidentally going down to Boston later this afternoon with some of her other friends, so we’ll probably meet up with her later. Should be a good time!

Today Was Good

February 14th, 2008 by Rian | No Comments | Filed in Miscellaneous

Today was an interesting day… first off, I woke up with mostly minimal ankle pain. What a relief.

So I didn’t get a ticket… which is a miracle. Usually people who park on the streets are ticketed. What another relief.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I went to Boston today to meet with my lawyer. I was in his building for a good four hours! My friend B went with me, but he was wandering around Boston during my meeting. When I finally got done with my meeting, he came to grab me and we headed over to a pub/bar place in downtown Boston called the Elephant Castle (I think).

Which brings me to today’s food and drink intake… it wasn’t good. I was extremely nervous this morning, so I only had a bowl of Special K protein. My stomach was upset as usual these days, mixed with nerves which made it ten times worse. Before leaving around 11am, I had half a protein shake for good measure.

The rest of the day and evening’s intake included: 2 shots of tequila, four bites of yogurt, a piece of a Valentine’s Day cookie, and 3 potato skins.

Yeah, I know. How healthy.

I got a lot of brisk walking in, though. My ankle seems to be OK so long as I don’t make any sudden moves. Regular walking is fine. Walking downstairs hurts though. I did have to take some Advil this afternoon because it started hurting.

If I had a doctor, I would go see him/her because of my appetite situation. I still have no appetite. My stomach seems to be constantly upset. The only time it is fine is when it’s empty.

Nooooooooo!

A lot transpired today since my last update… first and foremost, New Hampshire had a bad winter storm that turned into rain at 34 degrees, so everything is seriously flooded and there is ice and slush everywhere. My parking lot alone has about 5 inches of the stuff.

So earlier… I tried to get my car out, but the lot was so flooded that there was no way I was getting out anytime soon. So I took a cab down to the gym. I missed out on getting my nails done, getting a new phone, my friend’s AA meeting, and EVERYTHING else I was supposed to do. EVERYTHING!

I called my landlord and asked him if they were going to plow or do anything to the lot. Truth be told, everyone else I know in this city doesn’t have this parking lot problem. Their landlords plow, let them know WHEN they are going to plow and put sand and salt down.

Well, my landlord - who owns several buildings in downtown Nashua - apparently had several calls like this already and was in a terrible mood. He started YELLING at me and was so mean about things that I couldn’t believe it. I’ve rented from him for THREE YEARS now! I don’t deserve this. I mean, he constantly gripes about all his loser tenants that don’t pay their rent. I am NOT one of those. I pre-pay my rent and I don’t cause trouble! What the hell?! He should damn LOVE me. But no. He was going on and on, saying that I needed to lighten up. After all, some people’s basements were flooded because of the storm. New Hampshire is under water. Yada yada yada. I should be happy that my only problem is that I couldn’t get my car out!

Yeah, he said those things and more. So I hung up on him, believe it or not. I don’t deserve to be spoken to that way by someone whom I pay my rent to. I’ll probably get an eviction notice tomorrow with my luck.

Moving on…

So… around 7:30, I decided it was time to get my car out. I had things to do. So… I went out there. I shoveled behind my car, scraped/pushed about 3 inches of heavy ice/snow off my car. Burned about 200 calories doing all that stuff. The entire time I was ankle-deep in icy water and ice. After all that, I decided I was good to go.

Nope. My car got stuck in the middle of the lot, blocking everyone. So, I had to shovel more icy crap. It didn’t work, the car still wouldn’t move. Then I stepped on a patch of bumpy ice and my ankle went sideways.

Agony.

??!!!

So I called my friend B, crying. He came and rescued me and the car. He pulled it out onto the street. And yes, even he couldn’t get the car out of that icy mess for about 15 minutes.

I iced my ankle for a while, then drove him home because I was supposed to meet a friend of mine for a sandwich. So I did. After all, I hadn’t eaten anything since right after the gym (cottage cheese and a protein shake) and knew I needed some sustenance. Although still no appetite. I managed to eat 1/2 of 1/2 of a veggie sub. (1/4 of a sub).

I am not sure if the ankle is sprained, but it’s slightly swollen on the side and hurts a little. (At first it hurt badly). I am icing it on and off. I will be SO PISSED OFF if it’s hurt and I can’t go to Boston tomorrow. Also, I refused to park back in the lot, so I’m parked on the street and will probably get a ticket. I don’t even care at this point. If I do get one, I plan to bring the ticket into my landlord’s office and slap it down on his desk. I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE NEAR THAT TERRIBLE ICE PIT OF A PARKING LOT. I already have to walk with a slight limp. No wayyyyy.

?$^#!!??@

I’m hoping tomorrow will be a better day…
