Days Two and Three: Somewhat OK

Day two: Pretty bad. I didn’t exercise, but I did drink lots of water and didn’t eat Chinese food (or anything fattening or sugary for that matter). However, I had a friend over, who brought a large bottle of wine with her, and I probably demolished three glasses.

Day three (today): Better. I’ve been really busy today and have only so far had a grilled cheese sandwich and half tiny cup of cottage cheese. My friend B invited me to the pool hall/pub we go to pretty often. Anyway, I did get exercise walking down there, maybe about a mile. Walking in an inch and a half of slushy ice/sleet is akin to walking on the beach - you use your thigh muscles a LOT. With every step, I had to balance myself using my thighs in order not to slip and fall. Yeah, it was THAT slippery out. Still is. (I didn’t drive for that very reason).

So I actually only had two drinks, which isn’t too bad. When I was ready to leave, it was absolutely pouring freezing rain and I was NOT walking in that. (I had walked down there in it and still wasn’t completely dried off!) The cab company said it was an hour wait, at least.

So, I ended up having to fight an old drunk to get a cab. No, I’m kidding. Some old, super drunk guy (who used to live in my old building, funnily enough!) had called a cab 45 minutes earlier, and it finally arrived. I ran outside to see if the guy would take me home anyway since it was pouring freezing rain and plus, I used to be a regular with all the cabbies, they all know me. Thankfully he remembered me and agreed. (It pays to tip well!)

January in New England is pretty much spent (anytime one is outdoors) trying not to slip on ice or wading through snow, sleet and/or freezing rain slush.

Anyway, I think I will be doing a 30-minute stationary bike ride tonight and try and catch up on my water drinking. I just don’t feel all that well today - and didn’t yesterday, either. I don’t have much food in the house right now, so I doubt I’ll be eating much else tonight.

The last thing I will say is that during PMS week, it is extremely, extremely hard to diet and “be good”. I have particularly bad cravings right about now - for everything unhealthy, fattening and horrible. Simple willpower doesn’t do the trick in these cases. Perhaps a sledgehammer to head will?
