Grrrrr

October 17th, 2007 by Rian | Filed under Miscellaneous.

OK, I started crying after getting on the scale today. Twice. That is really bad.

Why. Do. I. Always. Gain. Weight. When. I. Exercise. A. Lot.

I mean, seriously. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!

One minute, I am losing. Then I get on the damn scale again and it goes up. No correction - it SHOOTS up.

I mean, wtf? WTF??!!

I haven’t been this strict with my diet since doing Kimkins a few months ago. I am eating nutritious and healthy foods - low calorie and semi-low carbs - and getting at least an hour of exercise per day. I eat several small, nutritious meals per day - between 4-6. No more than 1200 calories in any day, but mostly lower than that.

Yet the scale suddenly moves up. AGAIN.

Grrr, I am so upset and frustrated right now. It’s really, really hard to keep a positive frame of mind during these times. It is also hard not to get totally obsessive.

Yeah, my clothes seem to be getting looser. My stomach is going down.

So why won’t the scale?

1200 kcal is not enough if you are exercising. Yea, you will lose weight, but unless you are SuperDieter of the world, you won’t be able to maintain that for the rest of your life. And once you stop dieting, you will gain weight again. The reason why diets don’t work is that everyone binges their way out of them. Just keep concentrating on your healthy eating and exercising - it sounds like you are doing a super job. But it’s hard to be in a good mood when you aren’t getting enough calories! (And your rate of metabolism adjusts to the lower calories.)

That’s the thing - you might only be eating a certain amount, and -3500 = -1 pound, but it’s not always that easy; there are tons of factors that effect weight, including any past history of dieting and genetics that has made everyone what they are at this given point in time. So don’t get so down on yourself, you are doing awesome. :D

Well just my personal experience tells me that when you’re working out and Gaining muscle, the scale kind of gets stuck at a standstill. Muslce weighs more than fat. So you’re leaner but the weight of the muscle is there. But more muscle is good! because its Not fat and if you’re leaner, you’re going to eventually lose again because it will speed up the fat burning process.

I know how you feel! The same thing happens to me, but I try to remind myself that I am toning up and probably just gaining muscle mass. :”)
