I Gained!
April 2nd, 2007 by Rian | Filed under Miscellaneous.Ugh, you are probably wondering why I haven’t updated in a while. Well… not only have I been slacking off in a big way with my diet, but my alcohol consumption has continued, which makes dieting near useless (unless you don’t eat while drinking, which I cannot do). I’m a huge mess right now.
So, I stepped on the scale at my friend’s house the other night, and let me tell you, it was NOT good. I have gone up. I am PMS’ing this week, which always makes me gain about 5 or so pounds of water weight. I don’t know if that is normal, but I always gain several pounds of water weight - too much - and the water literally presses against my organs, making it hard to breathe when I’m laying in certain positions. So you can imagine the misery I am feeling at the moment.
It’s really weird- professionally (or should I say financially), my life is going really well at the moment, although a little stressful. But for some reason, my eating and drinking habits are going from bad to worse. Help!
To make matters worse, I’m supposed to be going to the Oral surgeon this upcoming Friday to get a bunch of work done. I’m getting my last 2 impacted wisdom teeth out, plus a procedure to fix an infected root canal. I’m being put to sleep, and not looking forward to it. The last two times I’ve gotten work done there, I’ve been fine, but my health sucks right now so I’m a little worried.
I started fresh today, doing a new diet I posted about on theskinnywebsite.com where you eat five small meals a day. However, the difference is that I am not going to bother doing the low carb thing - it’s nearly impossible for me right now (due to the fact that I drink alcohol). We will see how it goes. This new plan includes eating 5 small meals per day. Each meal includes a protein, fiber, and carb food.
Anyone else experience ridiculous water-weight gains before their periods? I’d love to hear it if you do. I should have known better than to get on a scale this week!

i dont think anyone can get to gain so much water weight in just a few days. usually when i have pms, i start to eat more, for comfort mostly. and thats where the weight gain comes about. is that the same for u?
hi
all i know is that i can gain 10 pounds over nite after a huge binge!
today is day one for me
i am sorry you are feeling badly.
have faith in the process
xo
Yes it is normal to gain water weight …durring my pms I range anywhere from 5-10 lbs…itsucks but cardio helps get ride of most of it. The only way I handle it and stay sane
I don’t gain water weight, but I definately start eating more (a LOT more - all bad for you stuff) about 3-5 days before my period, which causes me to gain weight.
Tip: I don’t know what sorts of alcoholic beverages you like to consume, but if it’s wine or something like that, you can cut it with seltzer water.
Also: I read somewhere that it takes 4 days of following a plan to a T for it to become habitual (from experience, this holds true for me, too). So, if you can make it T-R (and you probably can’t eat for a while after your dental work), you’ll be feeling much better and more committed and focused in no time.
Hi there! I’ve been on a weight loss adventure myself, and was looking over what you’ve been eating and want to offer some advice. While eating small meals throughout the day is good, this should definitely not include waffles. Those are purely carbs and sugar and get stored in fat reserves right away!
Argh, I know how you feel.
Try drink vodka or other spirits, they have less calories, and make sure you drink diet soda. Stay away from the beers and cocktails!!!
Also try not to consume so much salt, that really makes you retend water. Drink lots of water and eat more veggies and fruits.
Good luck!
Good luck at the Dentist! Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad week or two, try to keep positive though?
I can put about 5lb on in the two days before my period and tend to keep it on all week, especially around my mid-section. So frustrating!
Take care,
Anna

Just wondering, are you?
Anyway, have you heard of this website http://www.sparkpeople.com You plug in your height, weight, diet goals, and amount of activity you do and then they’ll tell you how many calories a day you should be eating. Plus there’s lots of message boards for support. Good luck!
[...] back when I weighed myself at my friend’s house at the beginning of April - when I posted that I had gained weight but I didn’t reveal the number, I actually weighed… 172. (When I saw that number, I almost lost it). However, I was majorly [...]
