I Am Noticing a Difference

I still haven’t weighed myself, but today as I was getting dressed, I am definitely noticing a difference. I have this pair of pants that I’ve been practically living in since most of my other ones don’t fit. Anyway, the pants are looser in both the thigh and stomach area, plus when I turn sideways in front of the mirror, I no longer look 10 months pregnant. More like 4 now. (Haha, of course I am exaggerating).

Somebody asked if I would write down what I eat each day so they could do the diet with me. I will do my best! I don’t want to write it down on the days I cheat though. So this is what I had Friday:

B- Cantaloupe

2nd B – 2 strawberry waffles, sugar free syrup, spray butter, glass of blueberry juice

3rd B – bowl of Kashi cereal

L – Pork roast (no carbs), cheese cubes (no carbs), salad with blue cheese (5 carbs or so)

D – Eggbeaters (ham and cheese) (no carbs), tuna (no carbs), diet coke

Before bed – few bites of cottage cheese

Then yesterday, I cheated a bit, and had:

B – Blueberry juice/cantaloupe

B – waffles

B – cereal

I had a few drinks at the bar… don’t ask what, it was bad. Then went to my friend’s house, had:

D – Chicken, few shots of Goldschlager (which has sugar in it)

Before bed – cheese cubes

1/2 hour of a Level 5 workout – my legs were hurting afterwards! My diet would have been fine had I not been drinking. Oh well.

Today so far, I’ve had:

B – Waffles

B – Cereal

L – I’m going shortly with some friends to a sandwich/pub place and will have a half glass of beer and a half sandwich. It’ll be a light, veggie sandwich with cheese, I think.

That’s it so far! Later on tonight I’ll have salad, chicken and cheese for my dinner. I plan to do a workout when I get home from the sandwich place, which I will be walking home from. It’s about a 15 minute brisk walk.

Quick Update

Despite being on antibiotics, I managed to do a really good workout yesterday. You know those workouts you do when you feel really good at the end, where you get the nice endorphin rush and all? I had that. I also started officially back on my six-meal-a-day plan, which consists of eating fruit first thing in the morning, a carb breakfast an hour later, another carb meal 2 hours later, then 3 protein/fat meals a few hours apart the rest of the day. It’s the best diet ever, you aren’t even on a “diet” really and lose tons of weight. At least I did the last time I did it. You are basically eating all day long but lose weight rapidly. My stomach was never as flat as it was on that diet. (Because you don’t eat big meals, stretching it out, but stick to small ones).

Today will be my second day on it.

The aforementioned bloating finally went away, for which I am very grateful.

I’ll update more later…

Still no Scale…

Grrr, I still haven’t gone to damn Wal-mart to get a scale, and I haven’t been at my friend’s house (who has a scale) for almost a week now. But I have a good excuse – I’ve been feeling like crap the past couple of days.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it in a previous entry, but I’m currently suffering from a bad root canal infection in one of my teeth. (I broke the tooth and had it capped/root canaled several years ago). Anyway, the infection had/has gotten so bad that it is affecting my sinuses and even my left eye. Scary, yes. I have an appointment to get surgery on it on April 6th. (It’s going to cost $1800!!) I’m on major antibiotics right now though, and they are making me feel lethargic and blahhh. I started a new prescription yesterday, and for the first dosage, they make you take 4 amoxicillin pills. Yuck! So, yesterday I lazed around the house for the most part. I did manage to get in a really good Level 4 workout for 30 minutes. I’m not going to write down what I ate yesterday because it was pretty gluttonous.

Today, I had no energy and had to get off the bike after 10 minutes. :( I did go play some pool tonight with a guy friend of mine. As for my eating/drinking today, this is what I had:

B – Chicken strips, Blueberry juice (super healthy!) and coffee – 250 cals
L – Grilled cheese sandwich. A few fries. – 500 cals
D – Mexican Rice, a couple beers and a shot of Yukon Jack at the bar – 500? cals

(all calories estimated)

Exercise:

10 minute bike workout
3 hours standing on my feet, playing pool, plus a brisk 15-min walk to the bar

This certainly wasn’t the healthiest day of eating. For some reason, all day today my stomach felt extremely bloated and full, even when I didn’t really eat all that much. I wonder if it’s a side effect of the antibiotics?

I plan to either go tomorrow or Thursday to get a scale…. for sure! Hopefully this weird and annoying bloating will go away by then.

Another Update

Thanks for the nice comments some of you left me. I was surprised to find out how many people are already reading this blog! :)

OK, I still don’t have a scale at this point in time. I ended up not going to get one the other day due to the ridiculous snowstorm we had. I am however planning to hit Wal-Mart today and get one, as long as I feel a bit better in an hour or so. I’m a bit under the weather today (have been all weekend in fact).

I have something to confess about my weight… something I have a hard time admitting. But here goes…

I eat too much. That’s why I’m overweight. There is no other reason. Well, that and my previous lack of exercise.

It’s easy to fool oneself and say “I really don’t eat that much, why am I fat?” and “I have a slow metabolism”, etc. But for me, it’s both. I was probably cursed with a slow metabolism because obesity sort-of runs in the family. But overall, I really do eat too much.

There, I said it… I eat too much. Especially when I’m drunk!

OK, I will post my weight later on. I’m having heart palpitations thinking about what it might be…

My BMI

Ugh, just a quick post. I badly need to weigh myself. I think I’m going to Wal-mart today to get a scale.

Last I checked, I weighed about 160. At 5′5″, my BMI would be 26.7. Which is clearly overweight.

I will post later tonight after I have re-weighed myself, as I’m positive I’ve lost a couple of pounds at least.

Update

Well, I suppose I should be out drinking with 90% of the rest of the population right now (since it’s St. Patrick’s Day and all) but I’m not. I’m glad that I’m not, too. Just taking a break and staying home is healthy once in a while.

So, onto diet stuff… My eating habits have slightly improved, but not near enough. I got a craving for macaroni and cheese earlier today so I ate a couple of helpings of that… ugh. (I’m so addicted to the Kraft Deluxe brand, it’s bad).

However, the stationary exercise bike rides are going great. I did two 15-minute courses today – one right after another – so it was basically a 30-minute workout.

My first 15 minutes was doing the Strength Interval Training at Level 2. I burned 50 calories in approx. 14 1/2 minutes. (I actually stopped before the 15 min because I wanted to switch courses). Then I did about 15 minutes on the Pyramid course at a level 3 resistance. I like that one a lot better – it takes you up through 5 levels of resistance and is always changing, so it’s not boring at all. I burned 60 calories on that one.

I think I will do one more 10 minute workout a few hours before I go to bed. (I can tell I’m going to become super-addicted to this exercise bike).

I haven’t weighed myself since my last weight post simply because I don’t have a scale at the moment. I have a love-hate relationship with the scale, and mostly prefer to go by clothing sizes to see what shape I’m in. Considering I’m roughly in an adult size 10 right now (sob), but was fitting into size 6 over the summer means… I gained a hell of a lot of weight in just a few months. Somewhere in the range of 22 pounds.

I may not be obese or even fat to many people, but I’m one of those people who have a lot of aches and pains and problems even at this weight of 160 on a 5′5 frame. I have trouble getting comfortable at night in bed sometimes; I get out of breath just walking up a hill to and from the store; I get a lot of headaches and stomachaches.

I’m pleased to report that even after only 4 or 5 days on the bike, my short-of-breath situation has been resolved on the walk to the store down the street. I mean, you know you are in terrible shape if walking 5 minutes to and from a store makes you a bit short on breath. Thankfully, it doesn’t anymore.

I will be buying a scale in the next few days and will update on my weight as soon as I do!

WorkOuts and Stuff

by Rian on March 16, 2007

in Miscellaneous

My stationary bike was delivered on Tuesday… and since then, I’ve done two workouts on it. Keep in mind I’m in terrible shape at the moment, so on Wednesday, I did a ten-minute workout and burned like 35 calories. That was on level 1 and 2. It winded me, just those damn 10 minutes.

However, yesterday (Thursday) I did a 14 minute workout and burned 60 calories. That probably seems like nothing to a lot of you out there… but I felt awesome after it. (Keep in mind I’ve been sitting on my ass for months on end doing nothing). I also ate pretty healthy the entire day.

Tomorrow (Friday), I plan to do a 20 minute workout. On the exercise bike I bought, you can either set a calorie or time goal, among other things. I’m going to set a 75 (or 80)-calorie goal. I may as well work my way up. Basically, I burned 60 calories in 14 minutes, alternating between 2 and 4 levels. Damn, how many calories can I burn doing like a 10 level? I can’t wait to find out…

In other news, I’m back to drinking. Not a lot though. I’ve been doing good on just a couple of shots of glasses or wine per day. I wish I could go a whole week without drinking anything.

As for weight, I weighed myself at my friend’s house the other day. I haven’t lost anymore weight yet. I’m not worried, though. I had weighed myself before the exercise bike was delivered, after all…

Stationary Bike

by Rian on March 9, 2007

in Miscellaneous

Sorry that I haven’t posted for so long.

I have exciting news, however. I went and bought a stationary bike yesterday – one with all the bells and whistles. It tells you your heart rate, how many calories burned, etc, plus tons of different courses and levels to choose from. I debated whether to get a stationary bike or elliptical machine, and finally decided on the former. (Due to price – the only decent ellipticals they had were well over $900!)

So it’s being delivered next Tuesday. I can’t wait – I plan to start small since I’m in terrible shape now, but eventually work myself up to doing two hour-long rides per day. I managed to get in fantastic shape over this past summer just by riding an actual bike, so I can imagine how good this will be for me with the different courses, resistance levels, etc.

As for eating, I’ve been doing pretty badly for the past few days. I have been doing good though with not drinking much, if at all, except for last night… ugh. Everywhere I go I am plied with alcohol (“Let’s do shots!! is a common phrase heard at my friends’ houses) so it isn’t very easy.

Onto another topic… buying larger clothes. Yesterday, I finally broke down and bought some clothes that fit me since my old ones don’t anymore. Sob. I am officially now a solid 10. Sob. Considering I am 5′5 and have small bones, this is terrible for me. Over the summer, I was fitting in size 6, for crying out loud! So it was very tramautizing yesterday for me. No wonder I got drunk last night!

I Did Good Today

by Rian on March 2, 2007

in Miscellaneous

OK, so today I woke up feeling pretty decent for a change. So my “diet” started anew.

I decided to go back to my original “five/six meals a day, carbs in the morning, protein/fat at night” diet. I got the most amazing results from this diet a couple of years ago – went from 155 to 135 in a matter of a month or two. And the funny thing is, you eat – a lot – on this diet. Who would have thought eating could make you lose weight?

So I’m giving it a try again. Today’s menu looked like this for me:

Breakfast (2pm):
Two waffles – 160
Sugar-free syrup – 35
Spray butter – 0
Coffee w/cream: 45
Total: 240

2nd meal: (4:30pm):
2 pancakes – 200
Sugar-free syrup – 35
Spray butter – 0
Few slices of canned pear – 60
Total: 295

Lunch: (7pm):
Turkey/Pepper/Onion stir fry – 225
Cottage cheese – 225

Snack: (9pm):
3 cheese sticks – 330 (I’m addicted to cheese)

Dinner: (in a short while)
3 slices ready-made bacon – 70
Garden Veggie Egg Beaters – 90 (that’s 3 servings, too!)
Total: 160

TODAY’S TOTAL: 1250 CALORIES

Not bad… I don’t usually get up so late, but I was literally up all night last night (insomnia, due to my stupid alcohol withdrawal which has also messed up my sleeping patterns).

Those garden veggie egg beater things are really tasty and super low calorie. You can make a large omelette which is about 3 servings or so, and you are still only up to 90 calories.

Anyway, I’m going to try and stay around 1200-1400 calories because I don’t want to lose weight too fast and get sick. As for vitamins and meds, I take 2 or 3 magnesium/calcium/zinc supplements a day.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to be up early to try and register for some University classes. Since I slept so late today, I have no clue how I’m going to get up early. But I have to try… the class starts next week!

My friend’s scale said I lost two pounds. I know it’s water weight, however. I am currently going through an alcohol detox which has completely screwed my body up. Ever go through one of those after months of regular drinking? It sucks… migraines, water retention, anxiety, high blood pressure, heart palpitations…

However, with the agony I went through last night, I doubt I will ever touch an alcoholic drink again. Seriously. I’m glad I went through it – my drinking was seriously messing up my weight loss, not to mention just causing me to feel ill most days. Earlier yesterday (Wed) evening someone offered me a drink, and I was easily able to turn them down, based on the memory of my detox withdrawals.

I also went to the Oral Surgeon yesterday (Wed) and found out that I have a root canal/socket infection, which is what has been causing me slight facial swelling and some discomfort. So I will be on Amoxicillin for the next few weeks until I could afford to spend $1800 on root/gum surgery. Fun fun fun! Actually the root/gum surgery alone doesn’t cost that much – I’m also getting my other two impacted wisdom teeth out and being put to sleep.

My low carb diet was blown to smithereens on Tuesday day when I woke up with the worst headache in the history of mankind… I was forced to guzzle gatorade and eat crackers all day long. Both are no-no’s on a low carb diet. So I’m back to square one. But I don’t care, dammit. I’m finally alcohol free.
